The American Academy of Psychoanalysis - 46th Winter Meeting
When: December 5-8, 2002
Where: San Antonio, TX
Psychodynamics in the Consulting Room and Beyond
Co-Chairs: Sheila Hafter Gray, M.D. and Michael B. Spevak, M.D.
Psychoanalysis and the psychodynamic interventions which derive from it remain mainstays of clinical psychiatry. The theories which support these treatments are applicable to other social and interpersonal situations ranging from the development and maintenance of the treatment alliance in medicine and other forms of health care through the formation and support of cohesive civilian and military work groups to facilitation of optimal psychological readiness to confront austere and perilous situations at home and abroad. We are looking for papers that will contribute to the scientific and clinical evidence-bases of psychoanalysis and dynamic psychotherapy, improve teaching and learning psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, and demonstrate applications of psychodynamic theory to situations outside the traditional consulting room.
Conference Objectives:
At this meeting participants will learn about recent contributions to the evidence bases of psychoanalysis and other psychodynamic therapies, innovations in teaching therapeutic techniques, psychodynamic approaches to actual trauma and its aftermath, and the application of psychodynamics to resolution of social problems.
